The student camp at Atananassovsko lake is a special tune in the melody of life. This poetic statement is made by Tanya - one of the participants at camp „Atanassovsko Lake 2010”, organized by Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB). Tanya was a volunteer at the student camp for the first time in her life. She should have return at home earlier but she chose to stay till the end of the camp. Last night, during the official close down, she expressed her feelings, emotions and experience during the last ten days and gratitude for the new friends that she has found here
Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and Atanssovsko Lake will be hosts for of many young people from all over the country who will participate in the traditional nature conservation camp. This year it will take place at the reserve “Atanassovsko Lake” from 23 August till 1 September.

After 18 years the globally threatened species Pygmy Cormorant nests at the Bourgas lakes again. Nowadays only 19 pairs of Pygmy Cormorant breed here. 15 of them are part of the colony of Common Spoonbills, Glossy Ibises and Common Egrets inhabiting the protected area “Poda”. The other four pairs nest at the Northwestern part of Vaya Lake. In 1992 at the Bourgas lakes nested 20-30 pairs of the species and back in 1973-1975 only in Vaya Lake nested about 200 pairs of Pygmy Cormorant. After that their number decreased significantly.
The project LIFE+ “Life for the Bourgas lakes”, implemented by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds and financed by EU, has its profile in the social network Facebook.
At the moment over 100 Dalmatian Pelicans use the Bourgas lakes for feeding and resting, as it was observed by experts of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB). The regular monitoring of the lakes is part of the activities of the LIFE+ project “Life for the Bourgas lakes”, financed by the EU.
Over 70 bags with garbage were collected by the participants in the cleaning campaign at Protected Area “Poda”. In this event, dedicated to World Environment Day (June 5) took part over 50 citizens, students, volunteers and sympathizers of Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB).
Cleaning of the Protected Area “Poda” is organized by Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds and Bourgas Municipality. It is dedicated to World Environment Day. The event will take place in the Protected Area (near the road Bourgas – Sozopol) on June 5 (Saturday). Everyone who cares about the condition of our nature and wants to become part of the event is welcomed to join us for positive actions.
30 students from the secondary schools in Bourgas and the region qualified for the final round of the “Ornithological Olympics”, organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB). It will take place at Nature Conservation Center “Poda” on June 12, 2010 (Saturday).
Over 100 students from the secondary schools of Bourgas region will participate in the first round of the traditional “Ornithological Olympics”, organized by Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB). This week they will compete for classification to the second round, which will take place in Nature Conservation Center “Poda” in June. In order to succeed, the students should answer correctly 15 questions about biology and ecology of the birds, inhabiting the Bourgas lakes. The participants should also identify two characteristic for the lakes bird species and to write down something about them.
