Over 100 participants in the first round of “Ornithological Olympics”, organized by BSPB 19.05.2010
Over 100 students from the secondary schools of Bourgas region will participate in the first round of the traditional “Ornithological Olympics”, organized by Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB). This week they will compete for classification to the second round, which will take place in Nature Conservation Center “Poda” in June. In order to succeed, the students should answer correctly 15 questions about biology and ecology of the birds, inhabiting the Bourgas lakes. The participants should also identify two characteristic for the lakes bird species and to write down something about them.

Students form Bourgas and the region will compete in the traditional ornithological competition, organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection f Birds (BSPB). Known as “Ornithological Olympics”, the competition will be organized for twelfth time in our country with the support of the Regional Inspectorates of Education. Last several years students form primary and secondary schools not only from Bourgas region, but also from Varna, Haskovo and Kardzgali regions took part in the iniciative.
Rare bird for the Bulgarian nature observed at the Bourgas lake 28.04.2010
Rare bird species was observed at the Bourgas Lake by experts and volunteers of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. The floods near the protected area Vaya sheltered the rare for Bulgaria bird Cattle Egret. Single representative of the species was registered during the regular monitoring of the water birds, inhabiting the Bourgas Lakes. The floods are attractive feeding areas for other bird species, such as migrating Grey Herons, Great Egrets, Common Spoonbills and Ibises.

No dead birds were found during the checking of part of the power lines in the region of the Bourgas lakes. It was implemented by team of seven experts and volunteers of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB). They checked eight power lines in the Northern part of Atanassovsko and Vaya lakes during the last weekend.
BSPB starts its second LIFE+ project 22.03.2010
Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) starts its second LIFE+ project called “Life for the Bourgas Lakes”. It will be implemented on the territory of Bourgas municipality during the next four years.
